Wooings, the introspective novella by Samuel Pirro, is now available in a beautiful full-color print version or downloadable as a PDF document.

The Story
After a horrific start in life, Peter staggers into adulthood lonely, sexually-conflicted, and estranged from himself and others.

Peter's fateful encounter with a young therapist, Leah, highlights his struggle as she begins to appreciate the depth of his issues. Though their relationship is rife with possibility, Peter runs from her only to become mired in the inadequacy of both the criminal justice and mental health systems.

Wooings traces Peter's efforts to reaffirm his own sense of self and reconnect with Leah and the world. The tragedy an comedy of his efforts are evoked with a precision that expresses the compassion and complexity of one man's life.

The Details
Samuel Pirro taps into his lifelong experiences with mental illness in Wooings. The first edition of Wooings was made up of two separate but related texts: one book of poetry and one of prose. Finished in the midst of Pirro's struggle with advanced-stage cancer, Wooings shows Pirro's intense commitment to an artistic ideal in the face of intense personal hardship. This second edition reflects the vision that Pirro had for Wooings all along (but was not sure he would be able to finish).

About the Author
Samuel Pirro lives in New York City where he earned a Master's degree in English from Hunter College of CUNY. An ardent devotee of Charles Dickens, Pirro devours classical authors such as Henry James and Jonathan Swift. Pirro's credits include The Blind Press' quarterly poetry and art publication,
The Blind Man's Rainbow. Because of his existing relationship with The Blind Press, Pirro naturally turned to them when we was ready to share Wooings with the world.
